Cheap Weddings - Is It Possible?

Every woman looks forward to her wedding day. While most of us dream of elaborate weddings with all the finer things, these days those kinds of weddings just aren't practical for some people. If you can stop yourself from spending unnecessary amounts of money, cheap weddings are very possible. To avoid spending exuberant amounts of money, here are some tips:

Bridal Shops:

They might try to order a size that's too big for you; don't let them. You know what size you wear; you're the one who's been trying on wedding dresses. The thing is, they try to convince you because there needs to be allowances for this or that. So you end up needing a seamstress to make alterations, hiking up the price. Cheap weddings stay cheap when you do things like make sure they order a dress in the proper size.

Vendors:

Regardless of the vendor, no matter who it is, be sure you know what all their fees are from the beginning. There could be a lot of extra costs and fees you won't otherwise know about. This applies to bands, performers, caterers, and others. Get your agreement in writing, and ask them flat out if there are any hidden fees.

Don't Say Wedding:

A tip: Telling the vendor that this is for a wedding is a surefire way to get the worst, most expensive deals possible. This seems kind of silly, but simply telling them that you're having an 'event' can save you money.

You can expect that when a vendor gets a whiff of a wedding, they will charge a lot more... often triple or quadruple the price of an event that's no smaller than a wedding.

Do get a price quote, but don't be afraid to haggle a bit and see if they'll go lower. Tips like this make for cheap weddings. So, can they be done?

Do you think "unique weddings" are a farce?
It kind of drives me nuts to look at different wedding services and venues who claim to offer "a truly unique wedding experience" when they're really just the same old thing repackaged and sold for a severely exorbitant price. I think a unique wedding should take place somewhere that is special to the couple. My thinking is "if they have weddings there, I don't want to get married there." I'd much prefer a less traditional venue that means something to my guy and I and that our guests can enjoy in a genuine sense, not just a fancy setting to oooh and ahhhh at and forget about the next day. Does anyone else feel this way? I'd rather not pay for someone to 'design' my wedding. I'd rather take care of it myself. Blunt> Uh, yeah I'm on a "budget", if you call flying both families and several of the guests to an entirely different continent being on a "budget". That's not my point. I'm saying that a lot of companies who claim to design 'truly unique' weddings simply don't. If you like tradition, then good for you, I just think that calling it "a truly unique experience" defeats the definition of what is 'unique'. Yeah and another thing about this "budget". Flying everyone out (to where my extended family lives) is about the only thing we're going to 'splurge' on. Why? Because that will accomplish the task of getting the people we care about in the same place, which is what really matters. As for the frills? What do they matter? There are much better things to spend money on.

Elegant/Unique Weddings in Las Vegas?
I'm doing some research on weddings in Las Vegas. I am specifically looking at wedding packages at hotels on the strip including The Luxor, Mandalay Bay, Flamingo, MGM Grand, Venetian, and Caesar's. I was wondering if anyone has been married at a hotel such as this in Vegas, what package you picked, and what you liked/did not like about it. Also, what did you pay in the end for how many people and ceremony & reception, etc. Any info you can provide is appreciated. I should also note that the wedding packages i have been interested in are poolside or outdoors with pretty views...vs. the standard chapel packages.
