Bridesmaids
Wedding Dresses and Their Traditions
There are many different traditions associated with wedding dresses but some of the most common and oldest ones are those to do with the actual colour of the wedding dresses.
You may not be aware but special wedding dresses were not actually worn until Victorian times. Up until this point, the wedding dresses were simply the best outfit that the bride owned.
It was Queen Victoria who launched the tradition of white wedding dresses. She decided that she preferred white to the traditional silver wedding dresses that previous royals had worn.
Of course white wedding dresses symbolise purity and virginity but many modern brides prefer to wear other colored wedding dresses.
There is an old rhyme that provides guidance to brides-to-be and is meant to help them decide on the most appropriate colors for wedding dresses:
Married in White, you have chosen right,
Married in Grey, you will go far away,
Married in Black, you will wish yourself back,
Married in Red, you will wish yourself dead,
Married in Green, ashamed to be seen,
Married in Blue, you will always be true,
Married in Pearl, you will live in a whirl,
Married in Yellow, ashamed of your fellow,
Married in Brown, you will live in the town,
Married in Pink, you spirit will sink.
The origins of this guide for wedding dresses are unclear but one of the funniest is associated with avoiding green wedding dresses.
Green is meant to be an unlucky colour and should be avoided when it comes to wedding dresses however it has deeper implications. Green wedding dresses are linked to grass stains and imply that the wearer has loose morals!
Did Not go to Family wedding... Year later what do you think?
So my brother was very close to everyone. We all got along had do much fun.
So you get it he was a fun loving brother.
He started dating Marie.she told him he had to stop talking to the family because we were not normal. She said it was either her or the family but he can't talk to both. She said my parents cheate on their taxes. She said that she was sick because we talk to her. She said when we get married promise me you will never take me to your family's house. They got engaged in the summer to be married the next. We hears thru afriend that my sitter and I were to be bridesmaids. She never asked us. She was so disinterested in her wedding. She had a year to plan but didn't start till 3 months before. More and more things happened. They came over to tell my parents that he was used in the family too much and that's why he didn't want to see us. He said he has to watch his back around us. It turned into a very physical fight. All the lil kids were screaming at him to let go of my Mom.(he had her in a choke hold)
It was bad. My mom contacted our pastor who knew my brother really well. He couldn't beleive how he acted. This girl brought out the worst in him. When growing up he never had a bad temper.
This girl had him wrapped around her finger and he was making him miserable.
We all started considering not going to the wedding cause he obviously didn't want us there. He called month before and apologize to our parents and said e hoped we would all be there. Then the soon to be mother in law called. ( we had known her for 3years) she said his success depend on us showing up at the wedding.
All us sibling pulled out of the wedding except one sister(didn't know what happened)
One groomsmen who was close with the family also pulled out he said that he hadn't seen Jake forever because everytime he wanted to do something together he had to ask Maries permission before e went esp. If she couldn't go.
So the family went to the wedding. I didn't go. I felt that if I went that is exactly what they wanted,... Have while family there and act like everything is just great and happy. A month before they acted all nice to us.
So I didn't go. I helped the family get ready at home and then stayed home.
I felt great about my descion and I don't have a single regret. I did have lots of people commenting on the "odd child that wasn't there" but I really don't care what they think; they were not there for the past 3 years.
So what do you think?
*** this happend 6 years ago when I was 13. Just so you know he hasn't talked with anyone except for a quick hi at a passing once in a while.
