Wedding Speeches From The Heart
If you have been asked to perform as the best man in your friend or family member s wedding, you have a big task ahead of you. As best man, you will be responsible for taking the soon-to-be-husband on one last fun fling (but not too fun), keeping up with the groom on his wedding day and making sure he gets to the church on time, and keeping track of the wedding bands. One other job you may have not considered is making wedding speeches, most likely at the rehearsal dinner and wedding reception.
Making wedding speeches can be a nerve-wracking experience, especially if you are not comfortable speaking in front of others. You may feel embarrassed speaking in front of many strangers and you may fear that while making your wedding speeches, you might forget what you want to say. Now is the one time when you need to put your fears aside and make the wedding speech for your best friend.
When you make wedding speeches, it will be similar to the toast. Wedding speeches are generally longer than a toast and may include humorous anecdotes or funny stories about the bride and groom. You want to be careful though. You do not want to tell anything that would embarrass or anger anyone in the room. You might even take this time to tell your best friend how much his friendship means to you and that you are happy about his marriage. You can be sure that your friend will appreciate the well wishes and nice thoughts on this very important day.
Most likely, if you are expected to give wedding speeches, you will be told in advance. If no one approaches this subject, do not think that it does not mean you do not have to speak. Many people are surprised and caught off guard when it comes to a request for wedding speeches. Ask your friend what is expect out of you so that you have the time to prepare sufficiently.
As you do prepare your wedding speeches, take some time to think about what you want to say. You might ask the groom if he expects something serious or something that is light-hearted. Write down your thoughts and prepare what you want to say before you are expected to speak. Practice so that you are not nervous. You might also want to say your speech in front of others so you can get some feedback.
